Marry A Canadian

Yes, it's come to this, way funny site.

I've been listening to too much NPR radio at the new job. It's something to do while I'm breathing the noxious ozone vapors oozing from the vast banks of computer terminals, servers, routers, etc. that I'm entombed with every night. Anyhoo, they had this Univeristy of Washington professor on the other night who blew my mind.

Stephen Bezruchka is, apparently, an emergency room M.D. and lecturer at the UDub and nearly everything he said about the Standard Of Living in 'Merika rang true. He talked straight forward (without the Noam Chomsky-isms) about how the economic chasm between The Rich and 'da poor is, literally, bad for your health -- Cadillac Escalante-drivin' toadsuckers and cheese-eating indigents alike. He sited examples of how much healthier physically and psychologically pre-Korean War Americans were compared to now. He referenced studies on other primate species in Africa and how they dealt with stress within a given social hierarchy ... Anyhow, it was really cool and he offered reasons for why Europeans, like the French, are less obese, less stressed and live longer lives.

More later ...
